• Biography

  Rin grew up in Restor with her mother and father. She had a mostly happy childhood, however when her schizophrenia became evident at an early age, her parents refused to admit to it and didn't provide her with any special attention. She made friends fairly easily as a child (despite being initially shy) because of what was described as her “vivid imagination”. As Rin grew, many teachers became aware that she was troubled mentally as she would often act out or speak of her hallucinations even though she was kind and behaved most of the time. Her parents continued to pay no heed to the these warnings, wanting to believe nothing was wrong with her. Rin became good friends with Orion Graves at age 10 after discovering he was the only other esper at her school. When she was 13, Orion moved to Crossridge to attend the ESPA, but Rin's parents wouldn't allow her to go because they thought her learning to use her ability would be dangerous. At age 15 she cut open her calf while playing in a river with her friends and needed stitches as a result. After this incident, she developed the delusion that her body would fall apart if she didn't stitch it up. She stitched herself in various places with yarn, including the sides of her mouth into a permanent smile, which horrified her parents. It was at that point they decided to send her to a psychiatric hospital. Rin, not wanting to go, ran away to join Orion and Crossridge and begged to stay with him in his friends' apartment. Though initially averse to the idea of housing a runaway, they saw how troubled Rin was and decided to let her stay, at least for a bit.
